The 2007 Pontiac Solstice is a distinct roadster with an attractive exterior and pleasing performance. The Solstice, introduced in 2006, shares a platform with the Saturn Sky, and comes in two different trim levels. Road & Travel Magazine say that the "distinct good looks, precise steering, strong brakes, supple ride and superb exhaust note make it all the more palatable," adding that the price range is attractive, making this car "a pure, satisfying roadster." Most reviewers find the Solstice enjoyable to drive on sunny days with the top down, noting all the head-turns this little car gets. New Car Test Drive reports that "the fun part of the formula has been cranked up several notches in the 2007 Solstice models."
Edmunds reports that the Solstice is "a sexy, affordable and truly American sports car. In other words, it's just what most roadster buyers are looking for." Though many compare it to the Mazda MX-5 Miata, Road and Track asserts that they don't rival one another: "They're similar in size, performance and cost, but utterly different in personality. The Miata appeals to traditional roadster values. The Solstice is edgy, stylish and American."
Most reviewers praise the Solstice, but that does not mean it's suited for everyone. There's a significant lack of trunk space that reviewers criticize, and the ride is tailored more for sport than comfort. In addition, some interior fittings are not as refined as those of competitors. Yet, in total, the 2007 Pontiac Solstice combines "exotic good looks with a sturdy chassis and world-class handling," says Kelley Blue Book. MarketWatch concludes that "Pontiac has managed to stand the auto world on its ear," adding, "There's been nothing like this out of Detroit for years, and anyone who cares about driving should salute Bob Lutz and the GM team that brought this little wonderful car to market in less than two years."
The 2007 Pontiac Solstice delivers a lot for its price. Edmunds says that this "pint-size convertible seems to offer a sort of frivolous appeal with an equally small price tag," but goes on to add that the Solstice "will rarely be your only car. It will occupy the extra space in your three-car garage and, like a sundial, will only record the sunny hours." Motor Trend calls the Solstice "a serious, purposeful, affordable sports car." Reviewers also note that the Solstice GXP is "arguably the best Solstice buy because of its superior engine," says MSN. Still, IntelliChoice gives the 2007 Pontiac Solstice a "Worse Than Average" value rating, based on total cost of ownership compared to others in its class.
The 2007 Pontiac Solstice comes in two trim level options, the base level and the GXP. The GXP trim comes with a turbocharged engine.
