Saab 9-3 Safety Review

Safety - 9.6 (Excellent)

All 2007 Saab 9-3 models come standard with full braking features and an assortment of air bags and other systems. While the 9-3 falls short of achieving perfect scores in government frontal crash tests (it receives 4 out of 5 stars), it was awarded a "Top Safety Pick" rating by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

Accident Avoidance

To avoid accidents, the 2007 Saab 9-3 comes with a traction control system, an electronic stability program, anti-lock brakes and Electronic Brake-Force Distribution. Owners of the Saab Aero have the option of Park Assist with the Aero Touring Package. This system alerts drivers with a when the vehicle is in the proximity of objects.

Crash Protection

Passengers are well protected in the event of an accident. Carz Unlimited emphasizes that "safety is a keynote feature on all Saabs," and this is especially evident with the assortment of air bags. All models of the 2007 Saab 9-3 include adaptive driver and front passenger air bags, head-curtain side air bags and torso side air bags. The steering column collapses upon impact. Front seats have active headrests, and all seats include adjustable headrests. Other safety features include three-point safety belts for all seats and safety belt pretensioners and load limiters for the front seats. The rear seats feature load shift protection in the rear seat back and lower child-seat anchoring points for the rear outer seats. The LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children) system is included.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gives the 2007 Saab 9-3 sedan four out of five stars in frontal crash tests, five out of five in side crash tests - front seat, and four out of five in side crash tests - rear seat. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awarded the Saab 9-3 its highest rating of "good" for frontal, side, and rear offset tests, and selected the 9-3 as a "Top Safety Pick" for 2007.
