Saturn Outlook Safety Review
Safety - 9.3 (Excellent)
The 2007 Outlook offers a very competitive list of standard accident avoidance and crash protection features. In fact, the Detroit Free Press asserts, "Safety and security are vital in family vehicles, and the Outlook provides both in spades." In government crash tests, the 2007 Saturn Outlook receives a perfect score of 5 stars in frontal and side crash tests, and 4 out of 5 stars in rollover tests.
Accident Avoidance
Every 2007 Saturn Outlook comes outfitted with automatic halogen headlamps, daytime running lights, child safety locks, a maintenance-free battery, and Traction Control- which adjusts engine torque until slipping tires are able to regain road traction. Moreover, fog lamps come standard on the XR trim.
An optional safety feature, included in the Outlook XR's Convenience Package, is ultrasonic rear parking assist -- which, according to Cars.com, "helped a lot," but "pales in comparison to a rearview camera, which some competitors offer."
Crash Protection
The Outlook is equipped with dual-stage driver and front passenger airbags, a front Passenger Sensing System, front seat-mounted side impact air bags, head curtain side air bags, an energy-absorbing instrument panel and steering column, front and rear crumple zones, front safety belts with pretensioners and energy-absorbing retractors, Lower Anchorages and Top Tethers for CHildren (LATCH), side impact door beams, and OnStar System with a 1-year Safe and Sound Service Plan.
Though the 2007 Outlook receives accolades for its impressive list of safety features, USA TODAY carefully observes that "middle seats in the second and third rows have no head restraints. The head restraints that are there don't adjust up and down to fit the occupants. Those are potential safety hazards."
