Scion tC Safety Review
Safety - 8.1 (Very Good)
Many reviewers are confident in the tC's capabilities to avoid an accident and protect in the event of one. In fact, the tC scores well in government crash tests.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gives the 2007 Scion tC 5 out of 5 stars for drivers in frontal crash tests, 4 stars out of 5 for the passenger in frontal crashes, and four out of five stars for front and rear side-impact government crash test ratings. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has not rated the 2007 tC.
Accident Avoidance
To help avoid an accident when driving, the Scion tC comes standard with all-disc anti-lock four-wheel disc brakes, brake assist and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution. The 2007 Scion tC also comes with a tire pressure monitoring system.
Crash Protection
Drivers are protected in the event of an accident with their 2007 Scion tC. Scion promotes the car's exterior panels as an impact-absorbing structure for collisions. The standard features include front and knee air bags, with an option for side curtain air bags for the front and rear seats, which are reviewer-recommended as the tC is compact. The 2007 Scion tC also has a collision protection system that uses sensors in the front air bags to detect a frontal collision. All Scion tCs have first-aid kits included, as well as front seat belt pretensioners, three-point anchor seat belts for all five seats and three-across head restraints in the car's rear.
To further protect passengers in an accident, reviewers like the one from About.com: Autos recommend the 2007 Scion tC's Side Impact and Side Curtain Airbag package, "a great safety option that's well worth the investment," the reviewer says.
