Subaru B9 Tribeca Safety Review

Safety - 9.8 (Excellent)

Subaru earns rave reviews all around for loading the 2007 B9 Tribeca with lots of standard safety equipment. For its excellent safety record, the new model receives a perfect 5 stars in government crash tests in frontal and side-impacts, and receives a "Top Safety Pick" rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

Accident Avoidance

The all-wheel drive Tribeca comes equipped with various accident avoidance features including a rollover sensor, four-wheel anti-lock brakes (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD),Vehicle Dynamics Control (which monitors stability), a Traction Control System, Brake Assist and a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).

But visibility is somewhat lacking, with CNET noting, "Three-quarterly visibility is severely impaired by the presence of a huge D-pillar, which would be classified as an even huger C-pillar were it not for the inclusion of a triangular port-hole-type window, which serves little function." However, the Chicago Sun-Times notes that "up front, visibility is good."

Crash Protection

Crash protection safety gear on the Tribeca boasts a number of features, including dual-stage deployment driver and front-passenger front air bags, an advanced frontal air bag system with driver's seat position sensor and front-passenger seat occupant-detection sensor, side-curtain air bags protecting front and outboard second-row occupants, seat-mounted front side-impact air bags and head restraints. Kelley Blue Book explains that "...the B9 Tribeca does excel in the areas of passenger safety, comfort and economy."

The 2007 Tribeca receives a perfect five stars in government crash tests in frontal and side-impacts. It also gets a four-star rollover rating. IIHS gives the Tribeca a perfect score of "Good" in both frontal offset and side impact tests. It also awards the Tribeca a "Top Safety Pick" for its good performance in front, standard and rear tests and for its standard electronic stability control.
