2007 Subaru Forester Safety Review [ 2009 , 2008 ]
Subaru Forester Safety Review
Safety - 9.8 (Excellent)
For a small SUV, the Forester performs quite well in independent crash tests. Moreover, its combination of AWD technology, crash protection design, and long list of standard safety features are noteworthy. In government crash tests, the 2007 Forester receives a top score of five stars in front and side crash tests. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety awards the 2007 Subaru Forester a "good" rating (the highest possible) in both frontal offset and side impact crash tests.
New Car Test Drive explains, "Mud, rain or snow, the AWD helps ensure safe forward momentum and directional control by making best use of whatever traction is available."
Accident Avoidance
All five trim levels of the 2007 Forester come standard with Subaru's traditional boxer engine, four-wheel independent heavy-duty raised suspension and symmetrical all-wheel drive system -- ensuring balanced road traction in practically any weather condition.
In addition to daytime running lights, anti-lock brakes and Electronic Brake-force Distribution are standard on the Forester -- helping to ensure the safety and security of all passengers. While all trim levels come equipped with a keyless entry and antitheft security system, the 2.5 X L.L. Bean Edition includes a glass shock sensor, and both XT trims are outfitted with an engine immobilizer.
Crash Protection
Standard on every trim level of the 2007 Forester are dual-stage deployment driver and front-passenger air bags, front seat-mounted head/chest side impact air bags, height adjustable front and back seat head restraints, child safety locks/tethers and three-point seatbelts with pretensioners and force limiters at all seating positions. Furthermore, the 2007 Subaru Forester maintains a Ring-Shaped Reinforcement Frame body structure and an energy-absorbing collapsible steering column.
