2007 Subaru Impreza [ 2008 ]
Subaru Impreza
Overall Score - 8.3 (Very Good)
The Impreza provides standard all-wheel drive and anti-lock brakes, but falls short of competitors in style and value. If you're in the market for an affordable small car, you should also consider the Honda Civic or the Honda Fit.
All models of the 2007 Subaru Impreza sedan lead the compact car class with standard all-wheel drive and safety features. But the aging design and high base sticker price, even on the non-sport models, leaves reviewers doubtful that the Impreza can compete effectively in its class. "Known for its rally heritage, standard all-wheel drive, versatility and performance, it has been a popular choice for a wide range of buyers since its 2002 redesign," Edmunds sums up. Car and Driver notes that "despite its advancing age, the 2007 Subaru Impreza still offers a high degree of versatility and performance." However, Kelley Blue Book notices, "If budget is a factor in your buying decision, you won't find much to like" with the Impreza base price.
Consumer Guide questions whether Subaru can justify the Impreza's hefty price as a compact car. "Impreza is generally priced above Honda Civic and into Volkswagen Jetta territory, but these Subarus lack the refinement and interior materials to match those compact car benchmarks," they write. "Still, all-wheel drive is an asset that comes with every Impreza." Even with all-wheel drive, IntelliChoice gives the 2007 Impreza and Impreza WRX models a rating of "poor" based on its total cost of ownership.
Impreza Performance - 7.7 (Good)
All 2007 Subaru Impreza models have all-wheel drive, a popular feature among auto reviewers and cold weather drivers, in particular. However, Car and Driver notes (of the non-WRX Imprezas), "if this is an honest, no-frills piece of engaging engineering, it is also showing its age." continue
Impreza Exterior - NA
The 2007 Subaru Impreza's last major redesign was in 2002, but Subaru made a few changes to have a more uniform look for its three small sedans. Despite the remodeling, most agree that the aging Impreza has fallen behind competitors' modern styling. continue
Impreza Interior - 6.4 (Mediocre)
Not only does the 2007 Subaru Impreza have a good assortment of standard features for a car within it's class, but reviewers also found that the 2005 interior redesign added some significant improvements. Automobile.com says the design is conservative, but attractive, and "most of the interior plastics are soft to the touch and all the panels fit together perfectly." continue
Impreza Safety - 9.6 (Excellent)
Every Subaru Impreza comes standard with all wheel drive and class-leading safety features. The non-WRX models of the Impreza receive all-around solid ratings in government and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) crash tests. continue
