Suzuki SX4 Safety Review
Safety - NA
The 2007 Suzuki SX4 is too new for crash test data, but offers a generous helping of standard safety features to reassure buyers. These include side curtain air bags, anti-lock brakes and all-wheel drive.
The federal government's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has not yet tested the all-new Suzuki SX4. Neither has the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), though it gave the SX4's soon-to-be-discontinued predecessor, the Aerio, a perfect rating of "good" in frontal offset tests. The Aerio received the lowest rating of "poor" in side impact tests, though the SX4, with its standard side curtain air bags, may fare better.
Accident Avoidance
The SX4's standard passive safety equipment includes anti-lock brakes with Electronic Brake Force Distribution, daytime running lights, all-wheel drive, and a Tire Pressure Monitoring System. The Sport model adds a Traction Control System and Electronic Stability Program -- features that are not available on the base model. Cars.com points out that stability control "has been shown to greatly reduce fatalities. It's also a feature not often found in this class; it's not available in the Versa or Fit."
Crash Protection
The SX4's standard active safety equipment includes dual-stage driver and front passenger air bags, front seat-mounted side impact air bags, two-row side curtain air bags, and front and rear side impact door beams. The three rear seating positions all have three-point shoulder belts, tall shingle-style headrests that drop down out of the driver's view when not in use, and LATCH child seat anchors.
