Toyota 4Runner

Overall Score - 8.5 (Very Good)

The 4Runner delivers excellent reliability, a car-like ride and impressive off-road prowess, but can't match the interior quality, fuel economy or cargo space of others in its class. If you're in the market for an affordable midsize SUV, you should also consider the Honda Pilot and GMC Acadia.

Auto reviewers generally agree that the 2007 Toyota 4Runner offers a reliable on-road and off-road package for a comparatively reasonable price. Introduced in 2003, the 4Runner's current model represents the vehicle's fourth generation. After a drivetrain update in 2005 and a face-lift for 2006, the 2007 4Runner remains largely unchanged. "It's as quick and powerful as it looks," says the Detroit Free Press. "The 4Runner is rock-solid, right-sized, a breeze to drive and park."

Though the 2007 Toyota 4Runner base model starts at a reasonable price, it can climb to at least $31,000 with add-ons, and can easily top $45,000 in the four-wheel-drive and V8 versions. The Washington Post finds that, "The 4Runner is excellent. But the mid-size SUV market is crowded with worthy competitors. This is a good buy -- without added premiums."

Kelley Blue Book speaks highly of the 4Runner's value, commenting, "In the volatile world of SUV resale values, the 4Runner continually outperforms the competition. The 4Runner SR5, for example, is projected to retain exceptionally high five-year resale values, far better than those of the Nissan Pathfinder SE, Dodge Durango and Ford Explorer." To back that up, IntelliChoice gives the base model a value rating of "excellent" for its predicted five-year total cost of ownership, compared with other vehicles in its class.

The Toyota 4Runner has three available trims: the base SR5, the Sport Edition and the top-of-the-line Limited. All trims are also available with 4WD.

4Runner Interior - 7.7 (Good)
