2007 Toyota Camry [ 2009 , 2008 ]
Toyota Camry
Overall Score - 8.9 (Very Good)
The Camry delivers responsive performance, a comfortable interior, and superior reliability. If you're in the market for an affordable midsize car, you should also consider the highly rated Honda Accord. If you like the Camry, but want better gas mileage, consider the Toyota Camry Hybrid.
Good performance, an accommodating passenger cabin, and a long track record of reliability make the Toyota Camry a favorite of both the reviewer and the consumer, and the 2007 model is no exception. Car and Driver says the Camry is still "crown prince of mainstream," and Motor Trend bestowed its prestigious Car of the Year award to the 2007 model. Sales figures back up the award, as the Camry has been the best-selling car in the United States for the past 10 years. "Toyota's perennially best-selling family sedan gets a complete makeover for 2007," explains Edmunds. "Its curvier, though still conservative design provides more real and perceived room inside," reports Kelley Blue Book, "and its steering, braking and handling are improved with a ride tuned toward comfort."
U.S. News reviewer Rick Newman says, "For a decent price (a well-equipped model lands in the low $20s) the Camry is an utterly unobtrusive ride, quiet, comfortable, and easily maneuverable." Some reviewers warn that the price can be quickly inflated with costly add-ons. "Toyota, possibly taking a leaf from the U.S. automakers, starts the car off inexpensively, but then loads it with options," claims the San Francisco Chronicle.
But there are a handful who feel Toyota's quality is slipping. Toyota fell from first place to fifth place in an annual Consumer Reports reliability survey, and the V6 Camry received a "Below Average" rating.
On the other hand, IntelliChoice gives four-cylinder versions of the 2007 Toyota Camry a value rating of "Excellent" compared to other vehicles in its class.
Camry Performance - 7.4 (Good)
The Camry has been completely reworked for 2007 to provide a more muscular, though still refined, ride. "Now in its sixth generation," reports Motor Trend, "the 2007 Camry line includes the most powerful version ever as well as the most fuel-efficient example to date." continue
Camry Exterior - 7.7 (Good)
Outside, the Camry undergoes a noticeable change for 2007 that most reviewers judge is for the better. The Washington Post asserts, "It makes you feel something where, with the old Camry, you once felt nothing. People will love or hate it. It is deliciously polarizing. Joy!" continue
Camry Interior - 8.3 (Very Good)
Reviewers find the reworked interior of the 2007 Toyota Camry simple, spacious, and comfortable. "The new Camry's cabin isn't revolutionary," asserts Automobile Magazine, "but it's well-crafted, comfortable, intelligently designed, and chock-full of useful storage bins." continue
Camry Safety - 9.3 (Excellent)
The 2007 Toyota Camry scores well in government and Insurance Institute of Highway Safety crash tests, partly because the cabin is loaded with air bags. Kelley Blue Book reports, "There are no fewer than seven air bags, including 'advanced' driver and front passenger, front seat-mounted side, side-curtain and (unusual in this class) a driver-knee air bag." continue
