Toyota Tacoma Safety Review

Safety - 9.3 (Excellent)

With a long list of standard safety features and impressive government crash-test scores, it's no surprise that Automobile Magazine reports, "The Tacoma was built to passenger-car safety standards."

Government crash tests conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration award the 2007 Toyota Tacoma a perfect score of five stars in both frontal and front-side crash tests, as well as a rollover rating of four stars. The four-door Tacoma receives an additional five stars for rear-seat occupant protection in side-impact crash tests. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awards the 2007 Toyota Tacoma its highest possible rating of "good" for frontal-offset crash tests.

Accident Avoidance

Every 2007 Tacoma comes outfitted with a four-wheel anti-lock brake system, electronic brake-force distribution, brake assist, and a centered rear high-mount stop lamp. Daytime running lights are optional.

Crash Protection

All Toyota Tacomas come equipped with driver and front-passenger air bags with Toyota's advanced air-bag system, 3-point seatbelts in all seating positions, a child restraint system, and side-impact door beams. While the Access Cab comes with a standard front-passenger air-bag cutoff switch, the Double Cab features optional front-passenger seat-mounted side air bags, as well as front and rear side-curtain air bags.
