Volkswagen Eos Safety Review
Safety - 9.4 (Excellent)
The Detroit News writes, "Volkswagen doesn't skimp on the things that make for peace-of-mind." That peace-of-mind is warranted, at least according to crash tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, in which the Eos receives a rating of "Good" -- the highest possible" for frontal and side-impact crash tests. The federal government has not crash tested the Eos.
The Sacramento Bee finds that the Eos offers "an outstanding standard safety package" that "includes side-curtain air bags, electronic stability control and a system that triggers roll bars if a rollover appears imminent."
Accident Avoidance
The Eos comes standard with anti-lock brakes (with brake assist), electronic stability control and traction control.
Crash Protection
Front, side-impact and side-curtain air bags are all standard in the Eos. According to The Car Connection, they're "tall enough to protect your head and chest." Moreover, reports Automobile Magazine, "the steel A-pillars are tied directly to the floorpan's stout frame rails. A rollover bar (powered by pyrotechnics, not a spring) deploys behind the rear seats in just 0.25 second if things go bad."
