Safety - What the Auto Press Says

The 2008 Acura TSX does very well in government crash tests, and many appreciate the long list of standard safety equipment available for the sedan.

According to the federal government, the TSX earned five out of a possible five stars in driver and front passenger protection in frontal crashes, five stars for front seat protection in side crashes and four stars for backseat protection in side crashes. The Insurance Industry for Highway Safety gave the 2008 TSX a "Good" rating, the highest possible, in IIHS frontal offset tests, and an "Acceptable" rating in side impact crashes.

Accident Avoidance

Reviewers like NewCars.com note that the 2008 TSX "is no slouch when it comes to safety and security," especially as it includes most of its equipment as standard fare. Available on all trims is a vehicle stability assist system with traction control that The Auto Channel says "keeps us from getting into trouble with overconfidence," while Consumer Guide notices the TSX's "assured grip" and "minimal body lean." The 2008 TSX also features a tire-pressure monitoring system, four-wheel disc anti-lock brakes and high-intensity headlights. Writers also note the TSX's 284-degree sightlines for improved visibility.

Crash Protection

The 2008 TSX has driver and front passenger frontal and side air bags, side curtain air bags, three-point seat belts at all seating positions and height-adjustable front seat belts with load limiters and an automatic tensioning system. Other safety features include impact-absorbing front and rear crumple zones, side-impact door beams, a collapsible steering column and a breakaway inside rearview mirror.
