Exterior - What the Auto Press Says
The 2008 A4 Avant resembles other Audis more than it resembles other station wagons, a design decision that's generally appreciated. The Auto Channel writes, "You immediately notice the subtle combination of classic yet sporty exterior style."
Later, The Auto Channel explains that it's the Avant's front-end grille that "sets the stage and lets you know it is part of the Audi family." Several others echo the sentiment. USA Today does not like the grille on the larger Audi A6, but says it's "not such a bad thing on the A4. Perhaps that's just because there's less of it on a smaller car." They add, "But for whatever reason, a gag reflex is not your first response." To Kelley Blue Book, the front grille helps ensure the "stylish Avant Wagon will never be confused with (or ridiculed by association with) those wood-sided station wagons of the past."
