Safety - What the Auto Press Says
The 2008 Audi A4 Avant does well in federal government crash tests, and is one of the insurance industry's Top Safety Picks for 2008.
In government crash tests, the A4 Avant earned four out of a possible five stars for frontal impacts, five stars for the front seat occupant protection in a side crash, and four stars for the backseat occupant protection in side collisions. The A4 Avant also received a four-star rollover rating. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave all 2008 A4 models the highest rating, "Good," in both frontal offset and side impact tests. IIHS also recognized the 2008 Audi A4 as one of its Top Safety Picks for 2008, for good performance in front, side, and rear tests as well as having electronic stability control standard.
Accident Avoidance
The A4 Avant has a dual circuit anti-lock brake system with Electronic Brake pressure Distribution and an Electronic Stabilization Program. The wagon's active cornering headlights swivel in the direction the wheels turn, "throwing more light where needed during a midnight dash through the canyons," says Motor Trend. A tire pressure monitoring system is also standard. An acoustic parking system with rear sensors to gauge the proximity of possible obstacles is an optional feature.
Crash Protection
The 2008 A4 Avant has standard dual-stage and dual-threshold front air bags with an occupant sensor and Sideguard TM head protection air bags for both front and rear occupants. Rear side air bags are optional.
