Audi A5 - What the Auto Press Says

The 2008 Audi A5 ranks 6 out of 8 Luxury Sports Cars. This ranking is based on our analysis of 14 published reviews and test drives of the Audi A5, and our analysis of reliability and safety data.

All-new for 2008, the five-passenger Audi A5 is considered by many critics to be luxurious and eye-catching with solid sports performance. Still, its large size and staid styling put it near the bottom of the class.

  • "The A5 is one of the latest vehicles in Audi's product offensive designed to woo buyers and stoke loyalty with a variety of niche products. Even if the new A5 can't erase the memory of more than ten years of abandonment, its good looks and reasonable price make it worth cross-shopping against more long-running competitors." -- Forbes

A5 Performance - 8.3 (Very Good)

The A5 features a 3.2-liter V6 engine that produces 265-horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 243 pound-feet of torque at 3,250-5,000 rpm. According to Audi, it has a top speed of 130 mph and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 5.8 seconds. Still, the A5 ranks in the bottom half of its class for performance. A5 Exterior - 8.5 (Very Good)

Critics find the A5's exterior to be sleek and sexy. "If it's attention you crave, the Audi A5 delivers," writes Forbes. "With a wide and low stance, wheels pushed to the corners and a stretched-out wheelbase, the A5 draws onlookers." Even so, the A5's exterior design ranks in the bottom half of its class. A5 Interior - 8.0 (Very Good)

Auto writers seem pleased with the level of refinement found in the A5's interior cabin. According to Automobile Magazine: "All of the instruments are logically laid out, and Audi's MMI operating system remains one of the most intuitive on the market. The cabin also imparts that quality look and feel that have become Audi hallmarks." The A5's interior ranks near the top of its class. Continue with our full A5 Interior Review. continue

A5 Safety - NA
