Audi A6 Safety Review

Safety - 9.8 (Excellent)

The 2008 Audi A6 is the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's "Top Safety Pick" in the large car category, earning a rating of "Good" in both frontal-offset and side-impact tests.

According to Edmunds, it performs "admirably."

Accident Avoidance

The A6 has an Electronic Stabilization Program (ESP), which reacts in 0.02 seconds by monitoring wheel speed, slip angles and steering wheel position during a potential collision. The ESP will apply the brakes, on each individual wheel, and reduce power. Together, this reduces danger and increases stability, within a considerably quick response time. Included in ESP is the Anti-Lock Braking System, Electronic Brake-Force Distribution, Electronic Differential Lock and the traction control system (ASR).

Crash Protection

The A6 is equipped with the latest safety technology. In addition to 2-stage passenger-sensing advanced air bags and seat-mounted front side air bags, the A6 is made of highly deformable steel alloys, designed to direct impact force away from the passengers. The A6 also has seat belts with automatic pretensioners, antilock disc brakes, stability control and optional rear-seat side air bags. Its body has increased in size over the years, providing more interior cabin space and lessening the likelihood of body injury in a crash.
