Interior - What the Auto Press Says

Critics are pleased with the S4's refined interior cabin. "Like the A4, the S4 maintains the good looks and excellent interior quality that have become two of the model line's best selling points," says Edmunds. Kelley Blue Book adds, "Open the door and you're immediately aware of wonderful sights, surfaces and even sounds. The 12-way adjustable power Recaro sport seats are covered in rich Nappa leather, with the option of Alcantara color-keyed inserts. There is subtle gray birch wood trim and S4 logos adorn the instruments and thick gearshift knob."

Seating

Auto writers are impressed with the S4 sedan's front-passenger sport seats - which feature an ergonomic design, integrated lockable headrests, extenders, and power adjustment and lumbar support - but disappointed with the lack of room afforded by its backseat. "Four fit comfortably and five in a pinch; front-seat occupants will find ample room, though larger riders will find that backseat space is at a premium," says Forbes. Edmunds reports that the front seats "feature aggressive bolstering to hold one in place when zipping around corners," but complaining that the rear seat is only suitable for children as adults "seated back there will likely complain about a shortage of legroom."

Interior Features

Among the many standard interior comfort and convenience features equipped in the 2008 Audi S4 is an activated charcoal filter for dust and pollen control, leather upholstery, Bluetooth technology, and an Audi audio sound system with AM/FM stereo and six-disc CD changer.

Navigation

Optional for the 2008 S4 sedan is a navigation system featuring a 6.5-inch color display, five language settings, voice guidance, and Graduated Audio Level Adjustment -- which adjusts volume according to vehicle speed. Most reviewers, however, find it difficult to operate. "The optional navigation system isn't a model of user-friendly design," says Edmunds. Forbes explains: "The optional navigation system includes Audi's Multi-Media Interface. MMI can be difficult to operate and may distract drivers from the road, but it's less annoying than similar systems offered by other European imports (read: BMW's iDrive) and does a particularly nice job of keeping radio channels organized with the optional satellite receiver."

Cargo

The S4 sedan offers 13.4 cubic feet of cargo space, as well as a folding rear seat back and ski sack. "A nice touch is the hidden storage areas under the front seats. They're a small but accessible place to stash iPods, transponders, hands-free phone accessories, and the like," says the Boston Globe.
