Exterior - What the Auto Press Says

Several describe the LaCrosse's exterior as clean and straightforward, but not exciting. But the new-for-2008 LaCrosse Super is noted for a more distinguished look. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports "the LaCrosse Super looks different enough from the more modestly styled LaCrosse to really turn heads. Maybe it's the chrome wheels, maybe it's the porthole. Who knows? But plenty of people noticed."

In previous years writers have complained of the LaCrosse's bland styling. As the Los Angeles Times notes, the sedan "is a nice car trapped in some astonishingly boring sheet metal," and adds: "If dullness were thunder, the LaCrosse would send dogs running for cover under porches. If mediocrity were snow, Detroit's Wayne County airport would have to be shut down. How big a committee styled this thing?"

For the 2008 models, Buick has modified the front-end -- but it's done little to modify the majority opinion. Kelley Blue Book says, "Though handsome, the LaCrosse breaks no new ground in the areas of styling …. The 2008 Buick LaCrosse's clean, streamlined sheetmetal will offend few." Similarly, the Detroit News claims the LaCrosse "takes on a sportier look, but still has uninspired styling."

Exterior Trims

Buick LaCrosse Super

The Super distinguishes itself from the other LaCrosse trims with a rear aero wing spoiler and dual chromed exhaust tips. The result is a car that gets more positive attention in reviews. "Unlike most Buicks, it doesn't look like it'll be overly boring," says Automobile Magazine, while the Detroit News notices "some personality in its front end."
