Safety - What the Auto Press Says

According to BusinessWeek, the CTS has "an admirable list of safety features," and performs well in federal government crash tests. Additionally, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety selected the 2008 CTS as a "Top Safety Pick" for good performance in front, side and rear tests.

In government crash tests, the 2008 CTS earns four out of five stars for the driver's protection in front crashes, and five stars for the front passenger. In side crashes, the CTS earns five stars for both front- and rear-seat occupant protection. The CTS also earns a four-star rollover rating with both rear and all-wheel drive.

Accident Avoidance

The Cadillac CTS comes standard with anti-lock brakes and a tire-pressure monitor. Also standard is the StabiliTrak traction and stability control system, which, says Forbes, provides "improved stability and control in extreme handling maneuvers." Optional adaptive headlights swivel up to 15 degrees in the direction of a turn. Automobile.com claims that this technology "provides superior cornering visibility during night driving."

Also optional is a parking assistance system that alerts the driver as the rear bumper approaches an object.

Crash Protection

CTS drivers are protected by six air bags: two frontal air bags, two side air bags for front-seat occupants and two roof-mounted side-curtain air bags that protect passengers in both rows of seats. Seat belt pre-tensioners and active head restraints are also standard.
