Safety - What the Auto Press Says
Because safety is not a primary concern of Corvette drivers, little is said of its active and passive safety systems. In fact, neither the federal government nor the insurance industry has crash tested it. Chevrolet equips the Corvette with driver and passenger dual-stage front airbags, as well as a passenger sensing system. Side impact air bags, however, are only available as an option.
- "All-speed traction control, which actively aids handling and stability, and four-wheel disc antilock brakes are welcome standard safety measures to help tame any unruly behavior. Run-flat tires allow a driver with a flat to keep going at a reduced speed to find a safe place to pull off the road, or if they're lucky, to reach a facility where the tire and/or wheel can be fixed, or more likely, replaced." -- Forbes
- Don't look for a spare tire because the Corvette has run-flat tires." -- Chicago Sun-Times
- "A head-up display projects the speedometer and tachometer readings on the windshield so the driver can see vital information without taking his eyes off the road." -- Kansas City Star
- "Thick roof pillars hamper visibility to all corners. Several test models suffered from annoying distortions from the rear window." -- Consumer Guide
