Safety - What the Auto Press Says

The 2008 Chevy Impala receives five out of five stars in both frontal driver and passenger crash tests and front side-impact in government crash tests.

Accident Avoidance

Every 2008 Chevrolet Impala comes outfitted with four-wheel disc brakes. While the 2LT, LTZ and SS come equipped with an anti-lock brake system (ABS), the Electronic Traction Control (ETC) and Corner Brake Control (CBC) are only available as optional features for the LS and 1LT. Other standard accident avoidance features include daytime running lamps, Lower Anchors and Top tethers for Children (LATCH), remote keyless entry, a PASS-Key III Plus theft-deterrent system, emergency trunk-release handle and a one-year subscription to OnStar's Safe & Sound Plan. Moreover, a StabiliTrak Electronic Stability Control System is standard on every 2LT, LTZ and SS gauges the vehicle's performance and brakes individual wheels when necessary in order to maintain overall road stability.

Crash Protection

In the event that a crash does occur, the Impala is equipped with safety-cage construction and Passenger Sensing System, as well as dual-stage frontal and head-curtain side-impact air bags for the driver and right-front passenger.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gives the 2008 Chevy Impala the second-highest score of "acceptable" in frontal crash tests, it was awarded the highest score of "good" in side-impact crash tests.
