Exterior - What the Auto Press Says

A healthy majority of reviewers admire the Chrysler Sebring convertible's shape. Motor Trend says the 2008 model came back "toned, sculpted and stiffer," and USA TODAY concludes, "It's a looker." The 2008 Sebring is also recognized for providing three options for retractable tops -- a first in its class.

The tops' options and functionality are appreciated. The Atlanta Journal- Constitution explains: "The Sebring convertible's roof -- choose from cloth, vinyl or hardtop -- is lowered and raised by pushing a button on the dash. It can also be lowered using a button on the key. It takes less than 30 seconds." Meanwhile, USA TODAY specifically highlights the hardtop. "En route up or down, it lifts, slides and lowers five panels: the trunk lid, a rigid tonneau cover that emerges from under the lid, and the three roof panels. Simpler than some, it's still a wonder in orchestrated mechanization." The Detroit Free Press likes that the top is controlled remotely, meaning "you can open while you're walking across the parking lot to your car."

For all the fans of the Sebring's tops, there are a handful who find nits. The San Jose Mercury-News notices "a little herky-jerkily in this era of mostly smooth convertible tops." Specifically concerned with the soft top, About.com says it's "just as complex and bulky and takes up just as much trunk space," as the hardtops. "Furthermore, the soft-top comes in either cloth or vinyl. That's right vinyl, as in plastic. What's that going to look like after fifteen Arizona summers or Colorado winters," the same reviewer concludes.

The base Sebring convertible has the option for the hard top or vinyl soft top, while the Touring and Limited trims can have the hard top or a cloth soft top.
