2008 Chrysler Sebring Safety Review

Safety - What the Auto Press Says
The 2008 Chrysler Sebring does very well in federal government crash tests, but has not been crash tested by the insurance industry.
The Sebring earned five out of five stars for both driver and front passenger protection in frontal crashes. In side crashes, the Sebring earned five stars for front seat occupants' protection and four stars for backseat occupants' protection. Additionally, the Sebring has a four-star rollover rating.
Accident Avoidance
Several writers are disappointed that the 2008 Chrysler Sebring doesn't provide its full arsenal of safety equipment for all its sedans. Although the base Sebring comes standard with anti-lock, front-wheel disc, rear drum brakes and a tire pressure monitoring system, only selective Touring or Limited Trims have four-wheel disc brakes. Electronic stability control and traction control are also included in the higher trims' package. To the Chicago Tribune, the absence of stability control systems on the base is "another reason to move up," to the Touring or Limited trims. In a similar vein, the Detroit News reviewer doesn't like the absence of adjustable pedals.
Opinions on outward visibility are mixed. Consumer Guide thinks the "narrow roof pillars contribute to good outward visibility," but New Car Test Drive says, "Thick A-pillars that strengthen the windshield for improved occupant protection in the event of a rollover can block sight of cross traffic at intersections and when exiting a driveway or parking lot."
Crash Protection
The Sebring sedan has advanced driver and front passenger air bags, supplemental front-seat mounted side air bags and supplemental side-impact inflatable curtain air bags for the first and second rows.
