Safety - What the Auto Press Says
The 2008 Ford Edge does extremely well in federal government crash tests, earning a top score of five stars for driver safety and four stars for passenger safety in frontal crash tests and five stars for both the front and rear seats in side crash tests. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gives it a score of "Good"(the highest possible) in both frontal offset and side impact tests and names it a "Top Safety Pick."
- "The Edge's crashworthiness is top-notch, having earned the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's Top Safety Pick award for front, side and rear-impact protection. All-disc antilock brakes are standard." -- Cars.com
- "Safety equipment even on the base Edge is excellent, and includes antilock brakes, traction and stability control, front side air bags and side curtains. Our test vehicle was also equipped with a $245 reverse sensing system, which is a handy device on a car with limited rearward visibility." -- Detroit News
- "Ford's AdvanceTrac system with Roll Stability Control is standard on the Edge, and a big plus in the safety department. In a nutshell, the system uses gyroscopic sensors to monitor both yaw and roll motions, making it very difficult to push the Edge off the straight and narrow." -- Sacramento Bee
- "There is one huge thing to dislike about the Edge and that is the reflections on the windshield from the large dash area in front of the steering wheel. This is a problem with all such vehicles that have long, rakish windshields and upright seating, but in the Edge, these reflections were so pronounced as to become a safety issue. Some kind of non-reflective surface has to be installed on the dash." -- Los Angeles Times
