Ford Expedition - What the Auto Press Says
The 2008 Ford Expedition ranks 2 out of 10 Affordable Large SUVs. This ranking is based on our analysis of 37 published reviews and test drives of the Ford Expedition, and our analysis of reliability and safety data.
The Expedition competes effectively with Chevrolet's Tahoe and Suburban, with a powerful engine and best-in-class passenger and towing capacity.
The 2008 Ford Expedition is well liked for its cargo capabilities and interior comfort, but its size contributes to a bland driving experience. Despite the lack of driving excitement, the Expedition is a good choice for comfort, safety, and for the power of its V8 engine. For 2007 the Expedition added the new extended length (EL) trims, adding 15 inches and giving competitors a run for their money.
- Motor Trend says the EL trim "simply beats a comparable [Chevrolet] Suburban at its own game." -- Motor Trend
- "Sure, you might want to think about something that uses less fuel if all you're buying it for is getting to work and back, or picking up the kids from school and driving them to T-ball practice and gymnastics, but for those who need to tow or haul eight adults around, there's no substitute for mass." -- Automobile
- "Ford's redesigned Expedition may have F-series roots, but it is far from trucklike in terms of civility, ride and handling." --Kansas City Star
- "If you must have a three-ton vehicle to carry eight people and tow 9200 pounds, the Expedition is a good choice."-- Car and Driver
