Safety - What the Auto Press Says

The 2008 Ford Mustang performs extremely well in crash tests conducted by the federal government. It earns five out of five stars for driver and passenger safety in frontal crash tests, as well as five stars for the front seat and four stars for the rear seat in side crash tests. Because the Mustang comes equipped with a wide array of active and passive safety features, including standard front side airbags, reviewers have few complaints.

  • "Four-wheel disc brakes and front seat side airbags are standard on all Mustangs. Antilock brakes and traction control are optional on the V6 models and standard on the GT. Neither stability control nor full-length head curtain airbags are available." -- Edmunds
  • "Traction control is included on GT versions and is bundled with the antilock brakes as an option on V6 models. This system allows a bit more wheel slippage than you might otherwise find in a family car for the benefit of more-enthusiastic drivers, yet it will engage more aggressively in icy, snowy or wet-road conditions." -- Forbes
  • "For additional safety, all Mustangs come with ABS and front side airbags designed for front and torso protection. Side airbags are available as an option, and we highly recommend you get them." -- Road & Travel Magazine
  • "Shoulder belts don't adjust for height. Outward vision is good in coupes, but the convertible top leaves wide over-the-shoulder blind spots." -- Consumer Guide
