Exterior - What the Auto Press Says
Despite recently refreshing its exterior, Ford's Ranger is still at the bottom of its class for styling. Although Automobile Magazine specifically notes an "aggressive grille that recalls the tougher, full-size F-150 and F-250 Super Duty pickups," others claim the design is not up to snuff.
Cars.com notes that for 2008, the Ranger's "front bumper has been redesigned to cut through the air more efficiently, and Ford says it improves fuel economy. New larger fog lights improve visibility, and a Grabber orange exterior color is available for 2008."
Exterior Trims
XL base model
The base model's exterior features include a raised power dome hood, black nostril bar grille, black manual mirrors, black door handles, solar-tinted glass, black bumpers and tie-down cargo box hooks.
XLT
The XLT adds a chrome grille and fog lamps and black tow hooks on 4WD models.
STX
The STX adds a black horizontal bar grille insert with body-color grille surround, body-color manual mirrors, body-color door handles, body-color bumpers, a body-color lower valance with integrated fog lamps, 15-inch machined-aluminum wheels and tri-color tail lamps.
Sport
The Sport adds a body-color grille, body-color wheel lip moldings, 15-inch silver painted wheels on 2WD models and 15-inch chrome clad steel wheels on 4WD models. Also available on the Sport is the optional TREMOR package, which adds 16-inch aluminum wheels and a 510-watt Pioneer sound system.
FX4 Off-Road
The Off-Road trim adds all-terrain tires, 16-inch cast aluminum wheels, black step bars, two skid plates, tie-down cargo box hooks, front tow hooks and fog lamps and TuTone paint.
FX4 Level II
The second Off-Road trim adds 15-inch forged aluminum wheels, special all-terrain tires, three skid plates, two silver-tone front tow hooks, one black rear tow hook and front fog lamps.
