Safety - What the Auto Press Says
The Taurus X comes standard with a number of accident-avoidance features and excels in crash tests. In government crash tests, it earns 5 of 5 stars for both frontal- and side-impact protection. In tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, it earns the highest possible rating in both frontal offset and side impacts.
According to the Detroit Free Press, the 2007 Freestyle's platform was "substantially re-engineered" by "engineers from Ford and Volvo" to incorporate "substantial safety improvements," including a body structure that "features crush zones that transfer energy around the passenger compartment."
Accident Avoidance
Standard accident-avoidance equipment on the Taurus X includes four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, traction control and electronic stability control. Edmunds finds that the "newly standard stability control neatly adds the missing piece to the safety roster."
Crash Protection
Frontal air bags, side-impact front air bags and three-row side curtain air bags are standard on the Taurus X. Also standard is a "Safety Canopy" system that keeps air bags inflated during a rollover. In tests conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Taurus X earns 4 of 5 stars for rollover prevention.
