Safety - What the Auto Press Says

The 2008 Taurus receives high scores in government and insurance crash tests, and is an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) "Top Safety Pick" for 2008.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gives the 2008 Ford Taurus five out of five stars for the driver and passenger in frontal crashes, as well as five stars for the front and rear seats in side crashes. The IIHS recognizes the Taurus with electronic stability control as a "Top Safety Pick" for 2008, and gives it the highest score, "Good," for frontal offset and side impact tests. Autobytel comments that with the IIHS' safety award, "the Taurus now looks and acts the part as a Ford flagship sedan."

Accident Avoidance

Both Taurus trims have four-wheel discs with an anti-lock braking system. An AdvanceTrac® Electronic Stability Control System and rear parking sensors are optional.

Crash Protection

In the event of an accident, the 2008 Ford Taurus comes standard with a Personal Safety System that includes dual-stage air bags for the driver and front passenger, safety belt pretensioners, a driver's seat position sensor and safety belt energy retractors. Ford's Safety Canopy System has rollover sensors and extended duration side curtain air bags, and outboard protection for both front and rear seat passengers. Also included are front seat side-impact air bags and lower anchors and tethers for children (LATCH) safety seats. The Taurus also has side protection and cabin enhancement (SPACE) architecture.
