Safety - What the Auto Press Says
The 2008 Hummer H2 has not been rated in government crash tests. Though its size, rugged construction, and weight do give it an advantage in crashes (often at the expense of other vehicles), it lacks certain safety features that are standard on many other vehicles in its class. Automobile Magazine says the "absence of stability control and side air bags are glaring oversights."
Accident Avoidance
The 2008 Hummer H2 has four-wheel disc anti-lock brakes with dual piston calipers with dynamic rear proportioning. The H2 also has a traction control system to keep the vehicle on track in slippery conditions but does not have a stability control system to help keep it upright. Moreover, Brake Assist and electronic brakeforce distribution are not available.
Crash Protection
Crash Protection features standard on the 2008 H2 include dual front air bags and seat belts. There are no side or side curtain air bags available. Most other SUVs in this class have side air bags standard and side curtain air bags standard in the front seat and optional in the rear seats.
