The Odyssey receives an excellent ranking because it delivers one of the best combinations of power, road-handling, and cargo/passenger versatility in its class. Moreover, a long list of standard convenience and safety features, combined with Honda's reputation for manufacturing quality vehicles, makes it deserving of attention.
The 2008 Honda Odyssey receives accolades for its class-leading powertrain, sedan-like handling, eight-passenger capacity, long list of standard convenience and safety features, and record of reliability. According to Automotive.com, "[T]he Odyssey delivers everything you could ask for in a minivan." In fact, the Odyssey has been given several honors, including being named one of Car and Driver "5 Best Trucks" in 2007.
Honda has made a number of changes for 2008, including freshened exterior styling, new interior textures, and improvements to the cylinder deactivation system to further improve fuel economy. Aside from mixed reviews on its transmission's ability to downshift smoothly, reviewers appear to be impressed by its powerful V6 engine and fuel-efficient Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) system. Despite minor steering woes and its suspension's inability to shield rear passengers against harsh road bumps, the Odyssey's superb brake system contributes to an overall pleasing driving experience.

Odyssey Exterior - 6.2 (Mediocre)
Though most critics aren't impressed with its plain exterior design, few would classify the 2008 Odyssey as ugly. Overall, reviewers believe that the new Odyssey looks better than previous generations. "In the styling department, the Odyssey has evolved into a much more striking van," writes Car and Driver. In addition to having enough space for seven or eight passengers, the Odyssey also maintains an impressive list of standard convenience features and expansive cargo room.
