Safety - What the Auto Press Says

The 2008 Hyundai Veracruz does extremely well in federal government crash tests. In addition, all safety equipment is standard, which Edmunds says is "a very strong statement of purpose from Hyundai."

The Veracruz gets top five-star ratings for driver and passenger safety in frontal crash tests. It also gets five-star ratings for front- and rear-seat safety in side crash tests. Both the two- and four-wheel-drive models get four-star rollover ratings.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gives the Veracruz a top score of "Good" in frontal offset tests and in rear crash tests. This good performance plus the Veracruz's standard electronic stability control earn it a "Top Safety Pick" designation.

Accident Avoidance

The Veracruz comes standard with Electronic Stability Control with a Traction Control System, and anti-lock brakes with Brake Assist and Electronic Brake Force Distribution.

The Washington Post notes, "In terms of crash-avoidance and impact-mitigation equipment, the Veracruz matches or surpasses all mainstream luxury vehicle manufacturers."

Crash Protection

To protect passengers in a crash, the Veracruz comes with six standard airbags. These include two advanced front airbags, two front seat-mounted side-impact airbags, and two roof-mounted side curtain airbags for outboard passengers in all rows. The front seat also gets active head restraints which move in rear-end collisions to cushion the occupant's head.
