Exterior - What the Auto Press Says
The 2008 Isuzu Ascender is viewed by auto writers as good-looking despite that fact that it's not very distinctive. The Orlando Sentinel also feels "The Isuzu Ascender's sharp lines give the GM-built SUV an edge in looks over its cousins, the Chevy TrailBlazer and GMC Envoy."
Of the 2003 model, which is still looks similar to the current one, Automobile Magazine notes "The badge on the front may say Isuzu, but this is really a GMC Envoy XL in a Japanese party dress. It is a very subtle frock, though, as only the badging, lights, grille, and bumpers differ between the Isuzu and the GMC." Kelley Blue Book simply concludes it's a "solid-looking SUV with a purposeful front-end design and handsome sheet metal all around."
The Ascender's "traditional two-box SUV profile," according to Cars.com, "features 17-inch alloy wheels, overfenders and bodyside moldings." A few reviewers comment on the sheer bulk of the exterior, with Auto Media noting of the 2003 model "Though officially midsize, this is one big vehicle. Built on an extra-long (129-inch) wheelbase, the Ascender stretches to 207.6 inches overall." At 191.6 inches long with a 113-inch wheelbase, the 2008 model is not quite as big as its original design.
