Exterior - What the Auto Press Says

The Optima's exterior isn't likely to draw a crowd. The Chicago Sun-Times says "While improved, the new Optima's mainstream styling won't turn heads, although that's no drawback because most mid-size Japanese sedan buyers don't want flashy styling."

About.com describes the new Optima as "pleasant looking in a bland, unassuming sort of way." Kelley Blue Book finds it "modern and attractive. The profile is fronted by an attractively restrained grille that's framed by halogen headlights with either clear or blacked-out lenses." Automobile.com likes the rear styling, saying "To me, it looks best from behind. Its unique taillights are extremely stylish, again in a subtle, nothing-to-prove fashion."

The base LX model and high-level EX have very similar exterior styling and include 16-inch wheels. However, the EX adds chrome door handles, tinted side windows, alloy wheels, and front projection fog lights. V6 models add dual exhaust. For a sportier look on either model, buyers can add the Appearance Package, which includes 17-inch wheels, blacked-out headlights, and a blacked-out front grille.
