Safety - What the Auto Press Says

The federal government's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gives the 2008 model a top safety rating of five-stars for driver and passenger protection in frontal crash tests, a five-star rating for front seat occupant protection in side crashes, and four stars for rear seat occupant protection in those crashes. It gets a four-star rollover rating as well. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has not yet tested the Rondo.

Accident Avoidance

The Rondo's robust list of standard active safety equipment includes Electronic Stability Control, four-wheel anti-lock brakes, and a Tire Pressure Monitoring System. The Fort Worth Star-Telegram notes, "Kia did not scrimp on safety" and adds, "Having all of these features in a small wagon in this price range is unusual."

Crash Protection

The Rondo's standard passive safety equipment includes dual front advanced air bags, dual front seat-mounted side air bags, full-length side curtain air bags, front active headrests, a front crumple zone, and an impact-absorbing steering column.
