2008 Land Rover LR2 Reliability Review
Based on analysis of 37 LR2 reviews and test drives.
Reliability
The 2008 Land Rover LR2 reliability score of 4.0 out of 10 is the Predicted Reliability rating provided by J.D. Power and Associates. This score is based on trending the past three years of historical initial quality and dependability data from J.D. Power's automotive studies, specifically the Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS) and the Initial Quality Study (IQS).
Land Rover offers a four-year/50,000-mile basic warranty on the LR2. The San Francisco Chronicle says, "In the latest Consumer Reports report on reliability, Land Rover placed 35th out of 36 brands. Only Mercedes-Benz was lower."
But Newsday wonders how "reliable" the reliability figures really are: "Finally, we get to the issue of reliability. It's a tricky one in this case because Land Rover's sales volumes are relatively low, making it difficult for some researchers to gather enough owner input for valid samples." And the Sacramento Bee, reflecting on the model that the LR2 replaces, observes that those "who had bad experiences with the Land Rover Freelander -- it suffered in some reliability studies -- will be glad to know that Land Rover has insisted that the LR2 is a complete do-over. The LR2 shares about zero with the old Freelander, Land Rover said."
