2008 Land Rover LR2 Safety Review
Based on analysis of 37 LR2 reviews and test drives.
Safety - What the Auto Press Says
Reflecting reviewer consensus, the Detroit News calls the 2007 Land Rover LR2's safety equipment "excellent." Government crash tests are not yet available, making it difficult to determine how safe the LR2 actually is. The Sacramento Bee says the LR2 has an "exceptional safety package."
Accident Avoidance
The electronic systems installed by Land Rover to improve off-roading also serve to prevent accidents. These include the Terrain Response system, which allows the driver to adjust the car's performance for a number of surface conditions, including snow, mud and ruts; Hill Descent Control, which slows the vehicle on downhill slopes; Gradient Release Control, which improves traction under slippery downhill conditions; and Roll Stability Control, which prevents vehicle rollover. There are also rain-sensing windshield wipers, and front and rear fog lamps.
Crash Protection
The 2008 Land Rover LR2 comes with seven airbags, including side curtain airbags for all outboard passengers and head airbags all around. There are also expanded front crumple zones and a safety cage of high strength steel around the passengers. "The LR2 is tough," says Forbes. "And its trail-ready sturdiness translates to on-road safety."
