Exterior - What the Auto Press Says
The exterior styling of the ES receives generally strong praise from reviewers, though some believe that the styling is too plain. "From the nose on, the sheetmetal flows into a rakish, aerodynamic body," reports Motor Trend. Though reviewers generally don't see the Lexus as flashy, many believe that the ES projects confidence, power and success.
However, in a contrary opinion, Newsday observes that the exterior, designed in the new Lexus style they call L-finesse, is "so plain it's nearly generic." Most people find the Lexus ES strikingly similar in appearance to the redesigned Toyota Camry, which shares its platform. Similarly, the Camry is both praised and jeered for its simple, "vanilla" design.
Almost all reviewers mentioned the exceptional build quality of the body of the Lexus ES, perhaps best said by AutoMedia.com: "The fit and finish of the exterior is, as always with Lexus, exceptional, even under close scrutiny."
