Safety - What the Auto Press Says

Neither the federal government nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has released crash test ratings for 2008 Lexus GX or previous model years, but reviewers generally approve of the safety systems on board.

Accident Avoidance

To help avoid an accident, the 2008 Lexus GX has electronic traction control and electronic stability control, as well as its anti-lock braking system. The GX also has electronic grade control, featuring downhill assist control and hill-start assist control, a system Edmunds calls "shockingly effective."

The 2008 Lexus GX also features an optional backup camera with full-color display that activates when the GX is in reverse.

Crash Protection

To protect passengers in an accident, the 2008 Lexus GX features advanced front, side-mounted and side curtain roll-sensing air bags for the driver and front passenger, and side curtain roll-sensing air bags for middle-row passengers. The GX also has side-impact door beams designed for impact resistance, a collapsible steering column, and crumple zones in the front and rear.

All passengers have three-point seat belts, with height-adjustable anchors for the first and second rows' outboard positions. The seat belts feature an automatic locking retractor and an emergency locking retractor for the passenger seating positions, and an emergency locking retractor for the driver's seat. In the middle row, there are child restraint seat tether anchor brackets.
