Lexus LS 600h Safety Review

The 2008 Lexus LS 600h has not been crash tested, but the LS sedan performs well and the 600h comes with a number of safety items standard. Many of the optional advanced safety features are praised.
Car and Driver says that Lexus "paid extraordinary attention to safety in the 600," and New Car Test Drive agrees, adding that the 600h has a "full suite of advanced safety features.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has not crash tested the Lexus hybrid but gives the 2008 Lexus LS a "Good" rating for frontal offset tests. Side impact testing was not conducted.
Accident Avoidance
The Lexus 600h comes with four-wheel power-assisted ventilated disc brakes, Traction Control, and Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management. The 600h also has a four-sensor, four-channel anti-lock braking system and Electronic Brake force Distribution. The 600h also comes with a standard Backup Camera.
Crash Protection
The LS 600h comes with dual-stage front air bags, front seat-mounted air bags and side curtain and knee air bags. The front passenger in the 600h also has dual-stage front twin-chamber air bags, and front seat-mounted side air bags and side curtain and knee air bags. The rear seat comes standard with rear-seat side curtain air bags and can come with optional rear seat-mounted side air bags.
Advanced Safety Systems
The LS has advanced optional safety tech features. A Pre-Collision System detects, with radar, a potentially threatening front crash and activates Brake Assist, retracting the front seatbelt in response. New Car Test Drive calls this one of Lexus' innovative safety features that "could be life-saving."
