Lexus LS Ranks #2 in Super Luxury Cars

Overall Score - 9.1 (Excellent)

Based on U.S. News editors' analysis of 96 leading automotive reviews and test drives, the 2008 Lexus LS ranks #2 of 5 in Super Luxury Cars.

The LS is a luxury sedan with V8 power and loads of technological appointments and safety innovations. If you're in the market for a super luxury car, check out the 2008 Mercedes Benz CLS or the 2008 BMW 7-Series.

The 2008 Lexus LS 460 is a refined, premium large sedan, with a number of standard features and high-tech innovations. Debuting on the LS is Lexus' new self-parking feature which reviewers are both impressed and confused by. The long wheelbase LS 460 L has an optional rear seat package that, when added, pampers backseat riders in reclining seats and lavish amenities. The LS handles confidently while acceleration is smooth and steady. Motor Trend says that in its fourth generation, "the LS - showcase of the brand's most innovative technology - is an obvious and welcome addition to our long-term fleet." Road and Track adds that the car's essence "is a sleek, supremely appointed, luxuriously outfitted freeway flier," adding that the LS will appeal to "the average luxury sedan buyer who's looking for a smooth, quiet ride that offers elegance, quality and reliability. Not to mention the solid reputation of Lexus."

While reviewers feel the base trim is inviting, the 460 L is supreme luxury. The Detroit Free Press says the LS 460 L "is the distillation of everything Lexus aspires to, the embodiment of Toyota's hopes as its luxury brand stretches to compete with legendary cars like the Mercedes-Benz S-class and BMW 7-series." CNET writes the 460 L "is the best car we've seen. We can't put it any more bluntly than that. It checks off all the tech boxes, then goes and adds some new ones," calling it a "Four Seasons hotel on four wheels."

"From the day it first hit the highways, the Lexus LS flagship sedan has been the benchmark for quality and quiet," says The Auto Channel. "It excels in comfort and luxury, while transporting its passengers in near silence over all road surfaces. If you're saving your money for a luxury car, this is the one you've been waiting for." And About.com states: "Lexus has a well-earned reputation for outstanding reliability and the relentless improvement of their products. As good as the original LS400 was, Lexus has come a long way indeed." IntelliChoice has not yet rated the 2008 Lexus LS 460 but gives the 2007 model an "Excellent" value rating, based on total cost of ownership compared to others in its class. IntelliChoice also gives the LS 460 L an "Excellent" value rating.

IntelliChoice awarded the 2007 Lexus LS 460 and LS 460 L Motorist Choice Award Winners for the Premium Luxury Car category and Smart Choice Retained Value awards.

LS Performance - 8.6 (Very Good)
