New 2008 Lincoln Navigator Exterior Review [ 2009 , 2007 ]
Exterior - What the Auto Press Says
The Navigator's 1961 Lincoln Continental-inspired front end does little to help its low exterior styling score. Milwaukee Journal Sentinel says, "Compared to the original, the second-generation Navigator has more formal styling, sort of like a tuxedo versus a sport coat and chinos, although the big, new grille exudes a hint of excessive bling."
In fact, Edmunds complains that its grille "has grown to such hideously large proportions that it partly covers the headlights." While Kelley Blue Book asserts that "this truck is about as big, bold and flashy as they come," Automobile Magazine asks, "What the hell happened to the front end?" With the extended version Navigator L measuring nearly 15-in. longer than all other trims, the 2008 Lincoln Navigator is easily one of the largest luxury SUVs on the market.
Notable exterior features standard on all trim levels include a luggage rack, High Intensity Discharge headlamps, fog lights, a reverse sensing system and power-folding heated side mirrors with security approach lamps and integrated turn signals. All Ultimate trim levels also come equipped with a standard power moonroof and optional power-deployable running boards. Altogether, New Car Test Drive describes the 2008 Lincoln Navigator's exterior body styling as "an incremental improvement," while the All Lincoln Navigators are equipped with 18-in. 7-spoke machined aluminum wheels. Optional for all trim levels are 20-in. 7-spoke chrome aluminum wheels. The Auto Channel happily exclaims, "There is no cartoonesque 22-in. option like Escalade."

Cars.com claims -- and many agree -- that "the best feature was the ability to enter the Navigator with ease via automatic power-extending running boards that remain hidden until a door is opened." This option is made available on all Ultimate trim levels and is included in Navigator's Elite Package.
