Safety - What the Auto Press Says

Despite a limited rearward view, the Lincoln Navigator's competitive combination of standard accident avoidance and crash protection features makes it a strong contender in its class. In fact, the government's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration awards it a top score of five stars for frontal crash protection as well as four out of five stars for rollover rating in 4x4 trims. The 2008 Navigator has yet to be rated in side-impact crash tests.

Accident Avoidance

Among other basic safety features, every 2008 Lincoln Navigator comes equipped with Advance Trac with Roll Stability Control, a lift-gate center brake light, child-safety door locks, the SecuriLock Passive Anti-Theft System, and a tire pressure monitoring system.

Nevertheless, auto reviewers at New Car Test Drive, as well as other auto writers, criticize Lincoln for not offering a rear back-up camera -- as second- and third-row headrests "reduce the scope of the rearview mirror considerably."

Crash Protection

In addition to LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tether Anchors for CHildren), all Navigator trim levels are outfitted with side-intrusion door beams and three-point safety belts for all seat positions. Moreover, dual-stage driver and front passengers, as well as side-curtain air bags for all seat rows, are standard.
