Exterior - What the Auto Press Says

The 2008 Lotus Exige has an iconic, race-inspired exterior. With its missile-shaped body, rear wing, black ground effects and front air scoop, the coupe will definitely stand out in a crowded parking lot.

"Like everyone else on staff who drove it, I received loads of attention in this car," reports AutoWeek. The Car Connection adds, "It looks like a spaceship and drives like a go-kart," noting that the Exige is "likely to turn heads as effectively as the new Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano, but for barely a quarter of the price."

The Exige hasn't had any recent styling changes and looks similar to its convertible counterpart, the Lotus Elise. "Both models are flamboyantly styled, and each car's appearance is augmented by a variety of vents and curves -- some shapely, others practical in nature," observes Cars.com. Indeed, the Exige's body is quite functional, as The Car Connection explains: "The goal is to not only cheat the wind by reducing drag, but also to use aerodynamics to maximize grip. The composite rear wing and rear diffuser contribute much of the car's nearly 100 pounds of downforce. A small scoop, mounted at the front of the sloping engine cover, funnels air back to the intercooler."

For more customization, Lotus offers eight "Lifestyle Paint" colors in addition to ten metallic finish options. A Star Shield clear paint-protection film is also available.
