2008 Mercedes-Benz CLK Convertible
Mercedes-Benz CLK Convertible
Overall Score - NA
The CLK Convertible is a stylish, powerful sports car with a functional backseat and a surprising amount of cargo space.
For 2008, the CLK63 AMG comes in a Black Series trim, and the 350 comes standard with sport suspension and 18-inch wheels. "The CLK-Class delivers good performance and comfort across the line, with Mercedes-Benz panache, though interior ergonomics are not its strong suit," says Forbes. While the CLK Convertible's high points are its seven-speed automatic transmission and smooth ride, its low points are poor fuel economy (from all but the base engine) and poor rear visibility.
The CLK Convertible comes in several trims: The base CLK350 comes with a V6 engine, while the CLK550 gets a V8. There's also a V8-powered CLK63 AMG performance model.
The CLK's fuel economy varies based on which model you choose. The CLK350 manages an almost-respectable 17/25 MPG. The CLK550 slips to 15/21 MPG, and the high-performance CLK63 AMG manages only 12/18 MPG -- which might give some buyers pause, given the record gas prices we've seen in 2008.
