Safety - What the Auto Press Says

The Mercedes Benz CLS class has not been crash tested, but the sedan comes with a number of standard safety features that ensure its safety on the road.

Federal government crash tests have not been conducted on the 2007 or 2008 models of the CLS class. And the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety does not have crash test results for the CLS class.

Accident Avoidance

The CLS550 has rear-wheel drive and comes with an advanced Electronic Stability Program. ESP adjusts acceleration, yaw and individual wheel speed, and braking when it detects that the driver is off course. ESP can also incorporate all-speed traction control, which helps the driver regain control of the car when a wheel slips.

Crash Protection

The 2008 Mercedes Benz CLS comes with an Integrated Restraint System that provides the driver and passengers with a number of air bags. The driver and front passenger have side-impact air bags and a three-point seatbelt with adaptive belt force limiter. The driver also has a knee air bag and the front passenger has an adaptive dual-stage front air bag. Rear seat riders have side-impact air bags and three-point seatbelts. The CLS is also fitted with window curtain air bags which deploy in the event of a rollover.
