The 2008 Mercedes Benz E-Class Wagons do well in federal government crash tests, receiving four stars out of five for driver and passenger protection in front impact crashes and five stars out of five for front and rear seat occupant protection in side impact crashes. They also receive a five out of five star rollover rating. In addition, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gives the E-Class models the highest rating ("Good") for frontal offset tests and the second highest rating ("Acceptable") for side impact tests. "As a family hauler," says Edmunds, "safety is a concern and shoppers won't be disappointed."
Accident Avoidance
Standard accident avoidance features on the Mercedes Benz E-Class Wagons include an electronic stability program, front and rear ventilated disc brakes with four-wheel anti-lock braking, Brake Assist and Traction Control.
Crash Protection
Standard crash protection features on the Mercedes Benz E-Class Wagons include dual-stage front air bags for driver and passenger with occupant-sensing deactivation system for the front seat passenger, side-impact air bags, and three-point seat belts with an Emergency Tensioning Device and adaptive belt force limiter. Child seat anchors are included. Mercedes also provides their PRE-SAFE system, which helps prepare occupants for a possible collision by tightening seat belts, adjusting the front seats and closing both sunroof and windows. According to Motor Trend, this system is able to "provide class leading safety."
