Mitsubishi Endeavor - What the Auto Press Says
The 2008 Mitsubishi Endeavor ranks 15 out of 26 Affordable Midsize SUVs. This ranking is based on our analysis of 40 published reviews and test drives of the Mitsubishi Endeavor, and our analysis of reliability and safety data.
The Endeavor is a solid performing SUV with a unique exterior and stylish interior, but it ranks near the middle of its competitive class.
Despite its five-year-old design, the 2008 Mitsubishi Endeavor still gets good reviews for distinctive styling, a strong engine, and responsive handling. However, it doesn't offer a stand-out total package like others in the class. Its most criticized element is the lack of a third-row seat option, available with several crossover competitors, such as the Honda Pilot, GMC Acadia, and Hyundai Santa Fe. "The Endeavor isn't the SUV for everyone," says Car and Driver. "It looks too zany, even though otherwise it's a conservatively conceived machine. It's the crossover SUV for those who can't stand fading into the crowd." For 2008, traction control is now standard on all Endeavors, and the rear glass no longer opens independently of the hatch on the LS trim level.
The 2008 Mitsubishi Endeavor is available in two trims: the base LS and the premium SE. Both are available in 2WD and AWD models.
- "The Endeavor impresses me with its size and roominess and its driving dynamics." -- Detroit News
- The Endeavor "mixes the most desirable attributes of a car and truck better than most. Indeed, giving up only extreme off-road capabilities in exchange for top-notch, car- like, all-weather street performance seems like a compromise that most could ''Endeavor'' to live with." -- Motor Week
Endeavor Performance - 7.9 (Good)
The 2008 Mitsubishi Endeavor has solid, if not inspiring, performance that ranks near the middle of its class. "The big engine's initial torque moves the Endeavor with grace, and the transmission's behavior is about perfect," says Car and Driver. "The steering is light and responsive, the ride is well mannered." Continue with our full Performance Review to learn about the SUV's optional all-wheel drive system. continue
Endeavor Exterior - 8.2 (Very Good)
The Endeavor's exterior styling ranks in the middle of the class, as others have more upscale looks. Still, several reviewers appreciate that the Endeavor doesn't look like a typical SUV. "Unlike some others in its class, its styling is unbland," praises Car and Driver. Endeavor Interior - 7.4 (Good)
The interior of the 2008 Mitsubishi Endeavor ranks near the bottom of the class, largely because it lacks a third-row seat and has some low-grade materials. "The Endeavor's interior is distinguished by two prominent features," explains the New York Times. "One is a lot of plastic used for a wide, retro-styled grillwork that incorporates the air vents in the center of the dash. The other is that at night, light-emitting diodes project a crisp blue light to highlight various switches and knobs." Endeavor Safety - 8.6 (Very Good)
The 2008 Mitsubishi Endeavor has not yet been crash tested, but previous models have performed well in government and insurance industry crash tests. A plus is that all of the safety features available on the Endeavor are standard equipment. Continue with our full Safety Review to learn about the SUV's solid brakes. continue
