2008 Nissan Altima Coupe Safety Review
Safety - What the Auto Press Says
The Altima Coupe does well in government crash tests. A wide array of safety equipment comes standard with the vehicle, though advanced equipment like traction control and Vehicle Dynamic Control are only available for the 3.5 SE.
In government crash tests, the 2008 Altima Coupe earned four out of five stars for the driver and front passenger's protection in frontal impact crashes. In side impact crashes, the Altima Coupe earned five stars for both the front seat and backseat occupants' protection. In addition, the Coupe earned a five-star rollover rating.
Accident Avoidance
Accident avoidance features on the Altima Coupe include a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) and, on the 3.5 SE, a traction control system (TCS). The optional Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) package for the 3.5 SE adds a system for detecting and preventing understeer and oversteer. The optional Technology Package adds a RearView Monitor backup camera. USA Today says, "The optional backup camera delivered a bright, crisp image of what you're trying not to hit."
Crash Protection
Standard crash-protection features on the Altima Coupe include dual-stage supplemental front air bags with seat belt and occupant-classification sensors, driver and front-passenger seat-mounted side-impact supplemental air bags, roof-mounted curtain side-impact supplemental air bags for front and rear-seat outboard occupant head protection and Zone Body construction with front and rear crumple zones.
